Pollo Feliz

In the summer months, when the temperatures are scorching and the kids are bored, you can find us at Pollo Feliz. They have air-conditioning (a rarity in San Miguel!), an enormous 12-foot play yard and ball pit, and great service. Their menu is small and simple but all kid-friendly.

BrasiMix

While San Miguel is overrun with taco carts, many of them set up quite late, way past the kids’ bedtimes, so if you want a real taco cart experience in the early afternoon, La Brasillia is your go-to place. They have a taco cart inside the restaurant, set up with the trompo where the taquero will be flaming up the meat and slicing it up as fast as you can say orale. The crispy tacos al pastor with pineapple and verdura (a mix of onion and cilantro) is the absolute best here and not to be missed. If the kids aren't into it, they also have quesadillas, flank steak tacos with cheese, and baked potatoes.

Los Burritos

Los Burritos has long been a local favorite, and it's our top recommended place for inexpensive, authentic Mexican food. Upon entering, you are met with an extensive burrito bar full of delicious, ooey gooey, scrumptious fillings. This is not Chipotle! You will have a choice of authentic Mexican specialties: rajas, mole, picadillo, tinga, desebrada, and so much more. For the kids, we recommend the quesadillas for the picky eaters, letting them try your fillings, or they can order huevo con chorizo, which is not spicy. But by all means, encourage them to explore the many flavors Los Burritos has to offer! The flour tortillas are made on site, and the kids will be entertained watching the cooks press and cook them as fast as they can.

So many times, sitting down to a meal with your family is as much about the meal as it is about the memories of that time spent together. Watching the sunset from the rooftop of the Rosewood Hotel at Luna together with your family is sure to be one of those special memories. Their menu is full of kids’ favorites, like pizza, tacos, and fries. While pricey, the food is top-notch. So are the drinks! This spot is best suited for older kids (10+) and is one of our favorites for celebrating special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. The best day to go is Friday when they their great live band performs. But you’ll need to make reservations, as this is a hot spot all year round.

Hank's New Orleans Cafe

Hank's is a popular spot for expats and Mexicans alike. While not kid-friendly at first sight with its bar-like feel, we love going to Hank's with our kids. The menu is enormous, the vibe is fun, and you can't beat the location. Their multicourse Sunday brunch is always a hit with the whole family.

El Pegaso

Quirky and fun is what you will think when you walk into El Pegaso. Owned by expat Robin and her husband, Beto, who opened their restaurant in 1987, El Pegaso is a favorite among many locals. Your kids will have fun looking at the art on the walls and gazing into the dessert display. Their menu is international with hints of Mexican. We consider their Chiles en Nogada the best in town. El Pegaso also has one of the best bakeries in San Miguel! Try their apple pie. They also have a beautiful rooftop with gorgeous views of La Parroquia

Our most frequented restaurant by far, Hecho en Mexico, never disappoints. The setting is in a beautiful courtyard, the staff is always friendly, and they have a huge menu. Their kid menu has great butter pasta, burgers, and chicken strips, but their regular menu is also full of great options, including tasty Mexican cuisine. And you won't want to skip dessert here.
